Book Safe Installation in Runcorn
Need a Safe Fitted Properly?
Bought a safe but unsure how to secure it? Safe installation means anchoring it into a suitable floor or wall according to the manufacturer’s instructions, with your insurer’s requirements checked: its rating depends on correct fitting.
Call 01928 611001 for Runcorn Locksmith. There is no call-out fee. Even a heavy safe can be taken away if left unfixed. [CLIENT TO CONFIRM: item 23, home and business safe-fitting scope, and supply or fitting only.] For access to a locked unit, see safe opening.
Why Installation Decides Whether Your Insurance Pays
Buying a rated safe is only part of meeting an insurance condition. Most insurers require installation to follow the manufacturer’s specification, which commonly involves anchoring into concrete or solid masonry. A safe resting inside a wardrobe, attached only to floorboards or fixed into plasterboard may fall short of those instructions. If it is removed during a burglary, the installation may affect your cover.
Policies differ, and correct fitting cannot guarantee that a claim will be paid. Before buying or arranging installation, read your policy and ask your insurer to confirm its requirements in writing. Include the safe’s certification, rating and proposed fixing arrangement in that conversation.
Whether the intended position works depends on the safe’s construction, size and weight, the route through the property and the manufacturer’s directions. Where available, provide the make, model, approximate height, width, depth and weight, together with the manual. [CLIENT TO CONFIRM: assessment of the supporting structure, fitting to manufacturer specification and advice where the proposed position is unsuitable.] For related door-security requirements, read BS 3621 and insurance-approved locks explained.
Cash Ratings and Eurograde: What Your Insurer Is Asking For
An insurer’s request for a cash limit, valuables limit or resistance grade describes different aspects of the safe you need. Match the certified product and its installation to that request before committing to a purchase.
| Resistance grade | Cash rating | Valuables rating |
|---|---|---|
| Grade 0 | Confirm for the certified model and policy | Confirm the insurer’s accepted limit |
| Grade 1 | Confirm for the certified model and policy | Confirm the insurer’s accepted limit |
| Grade 2 | Confirm for the certified model and policy | Confirm the insurer’s accepted limit |
| Grade 3 | Confirm for the certified model and policy | Confirm the insurer’s accepted limit |
The grade describes resistance testing; the monetary limits still need checking with your insurer.
Cash rating and valuables rating
A cash rating points to the sum an insurer may agree to insure inside that safe. It is not an automatic policy limit. Valuables ratings concern possessions such as jewellery and watches, commonly at a higher value than cash.
Conventionally, the valuables figure is ten times the cash figure, but do not assume that multiplier applies to your policy. Confirm both limits before choosing. Where a larger unit cannot fit, several smaller safes can sometimes offer a combined allowance, subject to the insurer accepting that arrangement.
Eurograde and EN 1143-1
EN 1143-1 provides a European framework for testing and classifying resistance to burglary. Independently certified safes may receive a resistance grade, often called a Eurograde, starting at Grade 0 and increasing with tested resistance.
Grades 0 and 1 are commonly considered for domestic storage; Grades 2 and 3 may enter discussions about retail or hospitality requirements. These are starting points, not recommendations for your contents. Check the certification evidence, including any AiS or ECBS references, against the product documents and your insurer’s requirements.
Not every safe sold is actually certified
“Security safe” on a box, or a manufacturer’s star score, does not establish independent certification to EN 1143-1 or EN 14450. Appearance and weight cannot establish that either.
Find the certification plate or label and check the model, standard, grade and certifying organisation against the product paperwork. Fire resistance is assessed separately: a fire-resistant description alone does not establish a burglary-resistance grade. Ask your insurer whether it accepts the specific product before purchase. The same evidence-first approach is explained in BS 3621 and insurance-approved locks explained.
Where a Safe Should Actually Be Fitted
A useful position balances concealment, everyday access and a structure capable of supporting and securing the safe. The room you prefer may need reconsidering once the floor, wall and access route have been assessed.
Ratings describe the protection assessed for a product. A resistance grade does not determine how much your insurer will cover, and other storage products may be assessed under different standards. Choose the rating around the contents, their insured value and the policy conditions, then establish where that particular model can be installed.
Floor fixing
A common arrangement uses the safe’s designated base fixing points to anchor it into solid concrete, following the manufacturer’s directions. The safe is bolted down to the supporting structure.
Suspended timber flooring alone does not provide the same resistance to removal. Describe the floor construction when you call, even if the room otherwise looks suitable.
Wall fixing
For a model designed to accept wall fixing, solid masonry can provide an alternative where floor anchoring is impractical. Plasterboard and stud partitions are unsuitable substitutes for that solid backing.
Smaller units and safes recessed into brickwork need their own assessment. Discuss both the wall construction and the model before arranging fitting.
Underfloor safes
An underfloor safe sits within the floor, concealed beneath a covering. Opening the floor and setting the unit into concrete makes this a planned installation rather than a simple bolt-down visit.
Concealment and resistance to removal are advantages, but the building work must be established first. Ask about suitability before making changes to the floor.
Where not to put it
Avoid an obvious location such as the main bedroom wardrobe, or anywhere visible through a window or doorway. A surface that cannot support the weight is unsuitable, however well hidden it is.
Damp conditions can also affect the safe and its contents. Leave enough room to operate it, and raise any concerns about the position when you call.
Safes We Fit
[CLIENT TO CONFIRM: item 23, supported safe types, grades, sizes and weight limits before publishing the following service list.]
- [CLIENT TO CONFIRM: home safes for money, jewellery and important paperwork.]
- [CLIENT TO CONFIRM: commercial safes for cash handling in shops, offices and licensed premises.]
- [CLIENT TO CONFIRM: fire-rated storage for documents and data.]
- [CLIENT TO CONFIRM: wall safes and underfloor models.]

For any model, the position must suit its weight, intended use and installation instructions. Assess the condition of the surrounding structure and the access route before selecting fixings. The safe must also be moved safely through the property.
For wider premises security, visit commercial locksmith; if an existing safe will not open, use safe opening.
Key Safe Installation
Arranging access for a parent or relative can mean making sure a carer can enter when nobody can answer the door. A key safe holds the door key in a small wall-mounted box, providing access for authorised carers, relatives or a care agency. Similar arrangements are used for holiday accommodation, visiting tradespeople and shared access.
Its security depends on where and how it is fitted. Choose a position out of street view, with fixing into sound masonry rather than relying on render or mortar joints. Some care providers and insurers ask for a police-approved model meeting a recognised standard; establish the exact requirement before buying. Councils and housing associations sometimes arrange key safes within a care package.
- Check whether the care organisation specifies a model or approval.
- Establish whether a key safe is already being arranged through the care package.
- Have the proposed wall and position considered before fitting.
[CLIENT TO CONFIRM: key-safe fitting availability, approved models handled, and supply or customer-supplied fitting.]

Already Bought a Safe? We Can Fit It
Delivery does not always include installation, and a safe bought online may still need securing before it meets the relevant instructions. [CLIENT TO CONFIRM: fitting customer-supplied safes bought from other retailers, and whether safe supply is also offered.] Have the model details, approximate size and weight, manual and any supplied fixings available where possible. Explain whether it has arrived, is awaiting delivery or is being relocated. Do not lift or reposition a heavy unit where that could injure someone or damage the property, and leave structural alterations until the requirements are established. Call to discuss the model and intended position before moving it there.
What Does Safe Installation Cost?
Safe installation needs a quote for the particular unit, building and work involved. [PROVIDER PACK: safe-installation prices, including VAT and applicable working hours.] The main factors are:
- Dimensions and weight: larger units may need moving equipment, additional handling or more than one technician.
- Fixing arrangement: the safe’s approved fixing points and the supporting material determine the approach.
- Preparation: the wall or floor may need work before installation.
- Access: stairs, narrow entrances, tight corridors, parking restrictions and the distance from vehicle to position can affect handling.
- Installation type: a small safe anchored to concrete is generally simpler than an underfloor unit requiring concrete setting.
Photographs of the safe and proposed position can help explain the job. The supporting area must be assessed against the installation instructions; fixings, materials and working time follow from that assessment.
Normal working hours are Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm. Evening and night work, weekends and bank holidays attract higher labour rates. You receive a price during the call based on your description, and any change identified on arrival is explained before work starts.
You pay for the work carried out, any parts needed, and VAT. Rates outside Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm, are higher, but the call-out itself is never charged.
For general pricing context, a standard lockout between Monday and Friday, 7am–6pm, starts from £70.80 including VAT (£59 plus VAT) per job. That starting figure applies to straightforward lockouts during those hours; safe installation is quoted separately. See the full guide to locksmith prices in Runcorn.

Frequently Asked Questions
01 Does a safe have to be bolted down?
Most rated safes need anchoring in accordance with their manufacturer’s instructions, commonly into solid concrete or masonry. Requirements differ between models, so establish the correct method for both the product and location. Check the instructions and your insurer’s conditions before installation; weight alone does not establish that a freestanding safe meets them.
02 What cash rating do I need?
Start with the amount you intend to store and the policy conditions. Your insurer may require a particular cash limit, valuables limit, resistance grade or certification. Ask for its requirements in writing before choosing. Valuables limits are conventionally higher than cash limits, but the commonly used ten-times calculation needs acceptance under your own policy.
03 What is a Eurograde safe?
It is a safe assigned a resistance grade following independent testing and certification to EN 1143-1. Grades begin at 0 and increase with tested burglary resistance. That classification helps describe the product’s protection; the amount insured and the installation conditions remain matters to confirm with your insurer.
04 My safe says "security safe" on it. Is that certified?
The description alone is insufficient. Look for a certification plate identifying the relevant standard, model, grade and certifying organisation, then compare it with the product documents. A manufacturer’s own star rating cannot establish independent certification. If certification is an insurance condition, have the specific product accepted before arranging fitting.
05 Can you fit a safe I have already bought?
[CLIENT TO CONFIRM: installation of customer-supplied safes and any exclusions.] Call with whatever you know about its manufacturer, model, measurements and weight. If available, include the manual, installation directions and details of supplied fixings. Suitability depends on the safe, the property and the proposed position, rather than where it was purchased.
06 Where is the best place to put a safe?
Choose a concealed location with a suitable supporting structure and enough space to open and use it. Avoid visibility from outside, damp conditions and surfaces unable to carry the load. Do not move a heavy safe into its final position until the route and installation area have been assessed. Discuss the position before delivery where possible.
07 Can you fit a key safe for a carer?
[CLIENT TO CONFIRM: key-safe fitting for care access and models supported.] Before buying, ask the care provider whether it specifies a particular model or approval, and check any insurer requirements. The position should be out of street view, with secure fixing into solid masonry. For other home-access needs, see residential locksmith.
08 How much does safe installation cost in Runcorn?
The quote depends on the unit’s size and weight, access, supporting structure, preparation and fixing method. An underfloor installation involves different work from anchoring a small home safe to concrete. Call 01928 611001 with the safe and property details: pricing is explained before work, and there is no call-out charge.
